前年度に引き続き、図版等を用いてあたり線の調査を行った。あたり線とは、色材をしみこませた糸を壁に向かって弾くことで印された直線である。本年度の調査の対象としたのは、敦煌莫高窟にて唐の時代に制作されたとされている壁画である。初唐に制作されたとされている壁画にて、水平方向ならびに垂直方向に赤褐色を呈するあたり線を観察した。周囲のモチーフとの位置関係から、画面を区切る、直線状のモチーフを描くための基準とする、同一直線状にモチーフをそろえることなどを目的として印されたものと推察される。いずれも後の工程の目安として印された可能性が高く、視覚的な効果は目的とされていなかったものとみられる。盛唐から晩唐にかけて制作されたとされる壁画については、あたり線の存在を示すに至る痕跡を観察することができなかった。一部の壁画にて、直線状のモチーフの付近に黒色もしくは赤褐色を呈する直線を観察したが、糸を用いて印されたものなのか、筆を用いて引かれたものなのかを判断することはできなかった。また、部分的に色材の飛沫のような痕跡がみられたものの、糸を弾いた際に色材が飛び散ったものであるかは判然としない。しかし、壁画には帯状のモチーフや、同一直線状に配置されたモチーフなどが描かれていることから、描画の際にはあたり線もしくはそれに類似する何らかの技法が用いられた可能性がある。これらを考察するためには、現地における詳細な観察が必要であるといえる。
