初年度22年度は、キルギス北東部イシククル湖周辺のコクサイ村、グレゴリエフカ村などの、牧畜コミュニティを中心に、山岳適応や家畜飼養にかんする伝統知のドキュメンテーションを実施した。牧畜民からは、伝統の家畜飼養法、在来有用植物の利用方法、季節移動の実態と宿営地の選定など、牧畜社会の実態に肉薄できる情報が多数収集された。あわせて、ヒトと動物の関係性を物語る、数多くのオーラルヒストリー、民話・説話、フォークロア、狩猟伝承などを収集することができた。イシククル湖南部のバイボースン自然保護区では、ユキヒョウの生態観察調査を進めており、現在7地点でトラップカメラが作動している。これらのカメラで、ユキヒョウの生態をとらえた画像・映像100回以上の撮影に成功した。現在は撮影された画像をもとに、斑紋特定などで個体識別を進めている。天山山脈テレスケイアラトー山中のスルト夏牧場では、白色ヤクの多頭飼育群に着目し、飼養方法のインタビュー調査、行動観察などに加えて、血液サンプルの採取や、GPS装着による行動圏調査などを実施した。ヤクの新生個体の染色体異常などの症例があり、現地牧畜民からの強い要望により、DNAによる解析を進めている。当該年度の夏季フィールド調査には、京都大学や他大学の院生・学生6名を同行し、フィールド実践の機会に触れてもらった。また、キルギスの中央アジア＝アメリカン大学の学生4名もアドホックに同行し、現地の若者たちに現地の遠隔農山村の暮らしに触れもらう機会を創出している。また、トルコ＝マナス大学では、農学部と獣医学部と協働研究を実施しており、現地ラボの共同利用のほか、同大所属の修士院生とのコラボレーションも進めている。
