2022年度は、中国の渡航体制と研究機関変更による環境の変化が重なり、新たに資料の出張調査を行うのが困難だった。そのため、日本国内で入手可能な資料を活用し、研究を進めた。成果として、オンライン・ジャーナルのHumanitiesに論文"Representing the Silk Road: Literature and Images between China and Japan during the Cold War"を掲載した。本論文は、1980年日中共同取材のテレビ・ドキュメンタリーシリーズ『シルクロード』について考察したものである。戦前東洋史研究を継承した1950年代以降の井上靖や陳舜臣などの歴史小説、紀行文と比較しながら、NHKのドキュメンタリー映像が示したシルクロード像、および「日本」「中国」の位置付けを分析した。帝国主義の負の遺産を背負いながら、資本主義と社会主義の間に挟まれた日本の表現者、とりわけNHKの製作者たちは、「シルクロード」の風景に映された冷戦の緊張をカメラで捉えながら、「旅人」の視点から語ることによって自らの政治性を後景化しようとした。それに対して、中国CCTVは、シルクロードにおける多民族融合の風景を通じて、「多民族国家」や「東洋と西洋を結びつける文化的記憶の共同体」といったイメージを含む新たな中国像を立ち上げようとしたことも明らかとなった。こうした中国側の表象の背後には、1960年代以来中ソ関係の緊張、いわば社会主義陣営の内側から生じた亀裂が深く関連している。このように、テレビ・ドキュメンタリーの『シルクロード』を通じて、日中メディアが互いに技術的・情報的なサポートをしながら、それぞれアジアの文化地図を描き直し、冷戦下の資本主義と社会主義の二極化を間接的に突破し、地域関係の再編成を試みようとした状況が浮き彫りになった。
