项目摘要

本研究の主たる目的は、意志力の暗黙理論（自己制御能力が有限であるか、あるいは、無限であるかについての人々の素朴な信念）の規定因とその社会的帰結を明らかにすることである。具体的な予測は、日常場面における自己制御発揮の認知が、意志力は有限であるという暗黙理論（有限理論）を形成していき、結果として種々の社会的帰結に影響を及ぼすというものである。令和元年度～令和３年度の研究では、学生サンプルを用いたパネル調査によって予測を支持する結果を得てきた。具体的には、大学の授業において自己制御の発揮を強く認知する学生ほど有限理論を強く持っており、また、大学卒業時に有限理論を強く持つ学生ほど、就職後に職場でのパフォーマンスが低下することを確認した。本年度は、これらの知見の頑健性と一般化可能性を検証するため、一般サンプルを対象としたパネル調査の第１波を実施した。分析の結果、自身の従事する仕事において自己制御を強く発揮していると認知する人ほど、有限理論を強く支持していることが確認された。この関連は、特性的な自己制御能力や主観的SES等の影響を統制した上でもなお確認された。さらに、有限理論を強く持つ人ほど、職場における主観的なパフォーマンスが低いことも明らかになった。これらの結果は、学生サンプルを用いたこれまでの研究の結果と整合的であり、本研究の知見の頑健性と一般化可能性を示している点で一定の学術的意義を有すると考えられる。今後は、パネル調査の第２波を実施し、縦断データを用いた分析によって変数間の因果関係をより精緻に検証する予定である。
