2021年度に引き続き、以下の研究活動を展開した。 (1)これまで実施した文献レビューによる情報の整理及び新たな文献の検索とレビュー、米国の“The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System ”(通称、IPEDS)の公開情報(Institutional Characteristics)を活用して作成したデータセット等に基づき、米国の高等教育機関においてプロボスト職を置いている大学リスト(4年制大学:3627機関)のアップデート及びWebページのスクレーピングなどを行なった。(2)カリフォルニア州に所在する機関について収集したプロボストに係る詳細情報、米国の“HigherEdJobs”(高等教育機関における専門職等の採用情報の掲載サイト)においてProvostを公募している大学の採用要件のアップデート、国内の大学においてプロボストに相当すると考えられる「総括理事」を置く大学の規則、規程等から期待される役割等の追加確認を行なった。(3)これらの調査結果から得られた情報を元に、米国の大学におけるProvostについては、職名に加え、職務範囲も機関によって異なる一方、学長の下で大学全体の予算、人事、組織改編の調整権を持ち、博士号を保有するとともに、学部長または教員のキャリアを有してい場合が多い。他方、日本の大学においては「総括理事」という名称を 取り入れている機関は少ないうえ、米国のプロボストのように役割は明確化されておらず責任と権限も限定的にしか付与されていない、という仮説検証を行った。なお、研究計画については、昨年度同様、新型コロナウィルス感染拡大に伴う国内外への移動制限を受け、対面調査は実施することができなかった。
