新型コロナウィルス感染症拡大の影響のため、2020年度、2021年度に引き続いて、2022年度も、国外、国内ともに十分な調査・研究を行うことができなかった。日本に関しては、「Society 5.0」をキーワードとする政策上の大きな転換が起こりつつあるが、このような変化が、これまでの日本語単言語主義に立ちつつ、「グローバル化」への名目上の対応のために英語教育を進めるという政策に対して影響をもたらすのか否かについて、検討を始めた。フランスに関しては、今世紀、フランスの公教育制度における言語教育は、欧州評議会が20世紀後半以降に提唱してきた複言語主義の理念と方策に沿って進められてきた。その結果、2008年度以来、初等段階でも、フランス語（国語）教育に加えて、〈現代語〉として、制度上は英語を含む８言語からの選択が可能とされていながら、実際にはほとんどの学校で英語教育が行われるようになっている。この状況には、一見、近年の日本との類似も指摘できよう。しかし、フランスでは中等段階から第二外語の教育が行われており、複言語主義を掲げる下で英語のみが偏重される皮肉な危険性は日本よりも低くなっている。フランスに関する今後の研究課題は、複言語主義によって英語教育の目標も母語話者レベルの能力ではなく、学習者の日常生活に必要な運用能力の育成へ転換されていく過程で、個々の学校現場でいかなる実践が試みられ、かつ、制度全体での教育成果がいかに評価されるかである。アラブ地域に関しては、当該テーマに関する研究のために、①中東アラブ諸国の言語教育におけるアラビア語の位置づけを確認し、②中東地域の多言語教育に関係する文献調査を行い、③中東における言語教育の専門家との意見交換により当地の最近の多言語教育の進展状況を把握する必要がある。
