本研究では、歴史的建造物の保存修理において、その根幹をなす「構造補強」という行為を再考するための新たな枠組みを構築することを目的とする。その手立てとして、構造エンジニアが修理工事に介入を始めた昭和初期の工事修理に注目し、実際の構造補強工事の分析を通じて、近代的な構造工学に基づく思想・技術の受容過程とその構造的特質の解明をめざす。5年度となる2022年度は、昨年度に引き続き、当時の文化財建造物の保存修理概念を検討するため、奈良県図書情報館所蔵の奈良県文化財建造物保存修理事業に関わる資料を収集し、分析をおこなった。合わせて、昭和戦前期までの建造物について現地調査を行い、当時の構造手法についての情報収集を行い、その分析をおこなった。さらに文化財修理技術者の機関誌である『清交』での事例および関連言説の収集および分析、文化財建造物を担った工務店における図面資料等の資料調査を実施した。
