本研究の目的は、小規模な生業社会に生きる人びとを対象として、人びとの生きる糧である文化(知識・技術)の伝達・継承・変容・拡散のパターンを、生物遺伝学の系統解析で用いられる統計学的な方法を応用することによって実証的に明らかにすることである。本研究は、文化を人から人へと伝達・継承される情報ととらえ、個人および集団の持つ知識のバリエーションをデータとして、生物学における系統解析の手法を応用することによって、個々の文化要素の伝達・変容・拡散に「親から子への垂直的伝達」「地理的近接性に基づく水平的伝達」「生態学的要因による適応的選択」という、異なる伝達経路がそれぞれどの程度寄与しているのかを具体的に明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は、エチオピアの現地調査を実施することができ、とくに金採掘などによる森の変容にともなう知識動態の変化を分析するためのデータを得ることができ、前年度までに進めた解析データとあわせて成果を得られる見通しができた。また、ラオスでの現地調査において、子どもの知識獲得に関するデータを補完するとともに、焼畑休閑林がユーカリ植林や水田造設などによって変容していく過程での知識のゆらぎについて、土地利用調査およびインタビュー調査によってデータ収集をすることができた。以上の結果をまとめ、エチオピアについては学会発表をおこなうとともに、ラオス調査に関して学会誌に投稿した。次年度は、さらにこれまでに得られた成果を結びつけ、成果をまとめる予定である。
