Compounds based on oxidized porphyrins were prepared and tested for their action for the photochemical generation of singlet oxygen. The materials were then utilized for oxidation of organic substrate and tested for use as antimicrobial materials. The zirconium-based porous coordination polymers were prepared and were found to generate singlet oxygen with good efficiency. These materials were then used to oxidize small organic molecules as models for pharmaceutical intermediates or toxic materials. This work was published.Another class of porous polymers was prepared and those materials were found to promote oxidation of the model substrate with better selectivity for mild oixidation. Other macrocycles were also tested for singlet oxygen generation.
