项目摘要

本年度は、第二次大戦後以降の旧英領東アフリカ諸国を対象に、シーア派インド系移民の移民史概要をつかむとともに、その障害者福祉活動を網羅的にリストアップし、各活動の歴史を跡付けることを目的とした。年間を通して関連文献のリストアップ、所蔵確認、収集、読解を行い、3月には約2週間英国に滞在し関連する未公刊資料を調査した。在東アフリカシーア派移民の関連文献は、国内には比較的少ない状況がある。これに対して、年間を通じての収集作業でかなり収集した。その読解により理解が深まったことで、シーア派とジャイナ教徒の移民の歴史的位置づけについて、研究計画当初の認識の誤謬が明らかとなった。つまり、シーア派はオールドカマーではなく英帝国内で移動した比較的ニューカマー、対照的にジャイナ教徒のネットワークは古かった。また、シーア派系であるが東アフリカでは「Khoja」と「Bohra」と呼び分けられる集団について、英国において写真や当時の手記等にアクセスしたことで、両者の共通点と差異を整理するための資料はおおむね揃った。英国では他に、欧米によるアクターによる資料として、1.東アフリカにおけるリハビリテーションの実態、2.東アフリカに労働災害法が導入された経緯、3.タンザニア・ウガンダ都市部で救世軍が提供した身体障害者のための施設・サービスについての1970年代以降の実態、に関する未公刊資料を収集した。これらは戦後の東アフリカ障害者福祉史を描くための重要な資料である。この資料の中にも当時関与していたインド系組織名を複数発見した。研究発表は、5月にアフリカ学会で語りに基づく視覚障害者史の記述方法について、1月に『現代思想』寄稿論文として東アフリカ都市の福祉とインド系移民とのかかわりについて、3月にアフリカ研究系公開シンポジウムでダルエスサラーム路上で福祉を受け取る人々の振舞いについて報告した。
