Processes of phase transformation thatis accompanied by periodic shear in the La_2Ni_4unit layer in La_2Ni_7consisting of the stacking structure of RENi_5 and RE_2Ni_4 unit layers has been investigated by x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM).
