It was reported that various stresses including psychological stress shorten the telomere length. This suggests the possibility that psychological stress affects longevity. However, due to its unknown mechanism, this has not yet been generally accepted. We have shown that a stress-responsive transcription factor ATF-7, a member of ATF-2 family transcription factors, contributes to the stress-induced telomere shortening.
