We found that the Ski corepressor complex contained Smad2/3/4, histone deacetylase HDAC3, and protein arginine N-methyltransferase PRMT5. This suggests that Ski binds to the TGF-β/BMP target genes to keep their low basal transcription levels via HDAC3 and PRMT5. We also showed that Shn-2 adaptor protein has a role to maintain cellular proliferation via suppressing apoptosis during T cell development.
