[1] Tapered waveguide device for bean focusingOptical beam focusing characteristics from tapered waveguides were theoretically investigated. It was found that the output beam was focused at a distance 60mum from the end facet with the spot size of 3. lmum. The control of the focal length due to electro-optic effect was also studied.[2] Beam control in graded-index waveguideFocusing of optical guided waves was demonstrated with a graded-index waveguide formed by Ti indiffusion. An optimum index distribution was found using wave optics. Restoration of degraded optical beams by means of spatial filtering and propagation characteristics of multiple beams were discussed.[3] Magneto-optic devicesWaveguide-type monosectional optical isolators using magneto-optic mode-conversion were studied and fundamental properties for isolators and circulators were clarified. High-speed optical switching by magnetostatic surface waves was demonstrated and an efficient device with multilayer structure was discussed.[4] Switching and deflection using acousto-optic devicesWavelength-selective switching was demonstrated with collinear acousto-optic devices fabricated on a LiNbO3 substrate. Deflection of multiple optical beams due to Bragg diffraction by SAW was also investigated.[5] Scattering from pitsOptical scattering characteristics from pits of optical disks were theoretically analyzed using finite element and boundary element methods.
