Studies on the identification of ABH antigens between red cell and saliva

To distinguish ABH antigens between red cell and saliva, we attempted to immunize various animals with red cell and saliva. Absorption of rabbit antisera to O . A red cell, O. B saliva with appropriate red cell and saliva resulted in specific antibody to the immunogen (anti-Hr,-Ar,-Hs and Bs). Rabbit was divided into two groups ( <A^+> and <A^-> ) according to its secreting ability of A antigen in saliva. Specific anti-Ar was produced in only <A^+> rabbit. It meant that A+ rabbit had A antigen shared with human A saliva. On the other hand, anti-As could be prepared in rabbit but not in guinea pig. The agglutinin titers of anti-Hr,-Hs and Bs) were relatively high, but the others were low. The titers of the antisera to saliva antigen were tested with latex coated with saliva of the corresponding group. However, anti-Br was raised in neither rabbit, guinea pig nor chicken. In this experiment, antiHr,Hs,Bs sera were easily prepared but antiAr and As were produced after immunization of many trials of immunization. At any rate, it was considered that these antisera specific for red cell or saliva ABH antigens were useful for forensic practice in criminal cases.
