The aim of this project is to investigate the dynamics of skyrmions in nanostructures defined from high quality bulk crystals under external stimulus. Our strategy is to prepare nanostructures of the multiferroic insulator Cu2OSeO3 using focused ion beam techniques. We have decided to start from high quality bulk materials since it has been shown that skyrmion motion is easily induced in such crystals. However, we also intend to investigate high quality skyrmion hosting thin film materials provided by other groups within the DFG priority program.We will study the interaction of spin waves with chiral spin textures of skyrmion crystals, skyrmion patches, and individual skyrmions in nanostructures and thin films. Here, we will use time resolved magneto-optic Kerr microscopy, micro-focused Brillouin light scattering, and all-electrical detection to investigate spin wave propagation and the scattering of spin waves in skyrmion textures. We aim at the indirect detection of skyrmions and will investigate the associated magnon Hall effect. In parallel, we will perform local ferromagnetic resonance measurements on bilayers of ferromagnets and chiral magnets to determine phase diagrams of the samples.
