初期近代演劇における少年俳優研究へのクィア理論の応用可能性を探るべく、①少年俳優が入団前の教育や演技指導において、女性の発声やふるまいを反復することで、逸脱したジェンダーをパフォーマティヴに獲得したプロセスと、②彼らのトランス的身体が当時の医学的言説でどのように記述され、舞台上で異性愛規範の物語に穴を穿つクィアな契機＝瞬間をもたらしたのか、を検証している。今年度は研究計画調書に基づき、①に関する学会発表を行った。実施要領は以下の通り。第60回シェイクスピア学会（於・甲南大学岡本キャンパス）「少年俳優の演技とグラマースクール教育の接点」。当時の成人劇団における少年俳優の演技指導に関する研究は多いが（McMillin (2004), Tribble (2009)）、彼らが入団前にどのようなスキルを身につけていたかに関する研究は少ない。本発表ではRutter (2009), McCarthy (2022)を継承する形でグラマースクール教育に注目し、男性性を養うはずの教育が、女性の模倣（imitatio）を推奨することで、将来の少年俳優の素地を作っていたことを明らかにした。具体的には雄弁術（rhetoric）の授業において、古典文学の女性のスピーチを朗誦したり、女性になりきってスピーチを執筆する訓練が行われていたことを、当時の教科書や教師用手引き（Charles Butler, Rhetoricae libri duo (1598); John Brinsley, Ludus literarius (1612)）から論じた。他、単著Performing Widowhood on the Early Modern English Stage (De Gruyter; Medieval Institute Publications (MIP), 2023) を出版した。

He is the author of Performing Widohood on the Early Modern English Stage (De Gruyter; Medieval Institute Publications (MIP), 2023).
