The project deals with the 17th century German song culture from a literary as well as musicological perspective. It aims to explore song production within its cultural European preconditions and within the scope of cultural studies approaches (translational turn, research on cultural transfer) for the first time. Although there has been a scientific interest in songs (BRAUN 2004, AURNHAMMER/MARTIN 2004, KRÄMER/JAHN 2004, DRÖSE 2015), little attention has been paid to the fact German song writers (Albert, Greflinger, Rist, Zesen) used a wide range of texts, melodies and notations that had been common in Europe and which they adapted, transformed and modified in their textual and musical works. Songs thus represent central media within the early modern cultural transfer. Two main aspects have to be examined: 1. The transformation of lexis, metrics and the musical arrangement, 2. The sociological reframing, e.g. courtly contexts such as the French Air de cours vs. the music culture of the Protestants in Northern German cities. In this regard the project focuses on two major goals: it seeks to compensate a blank space in the field of research mentioned above in a European context. It therefore concentrates on case studies which will be collected in a miscellany. Based on the results of this book there will be a following project which will also be connected to the Schwerpunktprogramm in its second term. In this second term the main result shall be a „Repertorium des deutschen Barockliedes im europäischen Kontext“, which will deal systematically with the musical poetry of the long 17th century and will thus provide a useful tool for further research (esp. by setting up a database DELIBA). The project is closely linked to section 2 („Anthropologie und Wissen“).
