本研究の目的は、日本の製造業における環境経営の課題点を明らかにしたうえで、人的資本と環境業績の関係について、定量的かつ定性的な分析により明らかにすることである。具体的には、企業の環境配慮型活動に欠かせない要素として人的資本に着目しており、人的資本の職務遂行能力を高め人材育成を強化することによって、環境業績を高めることができるという仮説について、製造業における環境経営の課題点を整理したうえで、定量的かつ定性的な分析により、環境業績を高めるために企業内部で行われている従業員教育および人材育成の実態とその成果について明らかにすることを目的とする。本研究は3年間の期間を予定しており、1年目である2022年度は、2020年度末に実施した「日本企業の環境保全活動の実態とその取り組みの成果に関するアンケート調査」の結果を考察し、インタビュー調査を実施した。研究の過程において、アンケート調査の回答企業の多くが気候関連財務情報開示タスクフォース (TCFD)に賛同している現状から、情報開示へ向けた各社の新たな取組について整理した。インタビュー調査では、質問票調査によって浮き彫りになった課題点について重点的に聞き取りを行った。その結果、各社とも課題点を抱えているが、技術開発により解決、改善することができる課題というよりは、社内における環境教育および人的資源管理に根本的な課題があることが示された。またこの結果を発展させ、SDGsの17の目標のなかで、とくに企業の環境配慮型活動に関する目標についての観点から、各社の取組の実態と課題点について考察した。以上の研究により、環境業績を高めるために企業内部で行われている人的資源管理の実態および環境対策への取組とその問題点について、さらなる問題意識と今後の研究に向けた課題を明確にすることができたといえる。
