本研究は、アウトドア活動をはじめとする自然における身体活動を、特に移民を対象に検証する社会学的試みです。これまでにない＜都市vs.非都市（自然）＞という構図を導きの糸とすることで、都市化やそれと極めて親和性の高いスポーツ化が進む現状に対して、別の視座からの社会学的知見を提起することを目標としています。初年度である2022年度は、主に先行研究の整理とフィールド調査を計画していました。【先行研究の検討】T.Ingoldのenskilmentに関する論考だけでなく、スポーツ社会学領域でなされてきたアウトドアスポーツ論や自然保護活動に関する昨今の研究事例を検証しました。さらに、日本国内の事例を含めた先行研究の精査に取り組みました。【フィールド調査】8月にカナダ・トロントにて、主に聞き取りと非調査対象の選定を行いました。これはプレ調査として位置付けられるもので、潜在的な調査対象者10名ほどに聞き取りを行いました。一方で、新型ウィルスによるさまざまな制約を受けており、具体的な調査対象や事例の決定には至っていません。対面での聞き取りが叶わなかったケースも複数あり、次年度以降に持ち越されました。当初予定していた第二回のフィールド調査も、新型ウィルスの問題から次年度以降に持ち越しとなりました。【学会発表】新型ウィルスの問題等から、北米スポーツ社会学会での発表は実現しませんでした。これに代わって、英国Durham大学におけるセミナーにて研究発表と研究会を行いました。ここでは特に、スポーツ社会学、N.Eliasの研究で高名なRoderick教授との議論を通じ、研究にEliasの論考を含めていく可能性を示唆されました。
