報告者は、本研究課題につき昨年度までに以下のことを明らかにした。ひとつは、為政者が都市部の臣民の主体性や価値観を十分に取り入れた上で、市政や教区の運営を行い、領邦国家形成に努力していた点である。もう一つは、農村部について教区聖職者の人的繋がりを分析した結果、彼らが領邦君主よりもむしろ地方貴族と強い結びつきをもち、領邦君主主導の領邦国家形成に障害が存在した点である。本年度はこうした結果を踏まえて、農村部における領邦君主―地方貴族―教区聖職者の関係を整理しようとしたが、史料上の制約もあり、都市部と農村部の中間に位置する小都市の検討をすることにした。ブランデンブルク選定侯領には、小都市として選定侯が当初から領主であった直属都市、ある時点で選定侯が領主となった都市、地方貴族が領主でありつづけた非直属都市がある。未だ検討中なので最終的な結論ではないが、それぞれにおけて領邦君主―地方貴族―都市住民の関係は一様ではないものの、地方貴族・市参事会と住民が対立する中で、領邦君主が住民寄りの仲裁者として登場し、影響力を行使していることが確認できた。各まとまりにおいて、君主と教区聖職者、教区聖職者と臣民との関係が再度検討を要する課題として残されていると考える。また当領邦では、17世紀以降領邦君主と地方貴族以下の臣民と信仰が異なったため、特にベルリンにおいて大量のユグノーが受け容れられた。そこで、フランス人教区の改革派臣民と既存教区のルター派臣民との関係も考察する必要が生じた。この点についても最終的な結論を避けるが、領邦君主は前者を政治面・経済面・文化面において優遇すると同時に、後者を排斥するのではなく彼らの価値観を尊重した上で譲歩できるところは最大限に譲歩し、領邦国家としての一体性を保持しようとしていたことが確認された。
