<目的> 過去50年から60年ほどの間に刊行された各種刊行物を資料として、衣食住の変遷を可視化する一連の試みに取り組んでいる。本研究は、衣生活の変遷を可視化する試みの一つとして、昭和中期から現在に至る期間に婦人雑誌・キモノ雑誌・キモノムックの表紙に掲載されたカラー写真を資料として、和装時における髪型の変遷についての調査・分析を行ったものである。<方法> 婦人雑誌の表紙がカラー写真となった1960年代中頃以降を調査対象期間とし、期間中に刊行された婦人雑誌7誌(「主婦の友」「主婦と生活」「婦人生活」「婦人倶楽部」「婦人画報」「ミセス」「マダム」)の表紙を、国立国会図書館および東京都立多摩図書館において閲覧し、和装のものをカラーコピーして収集した。なお、比較のため、1965年・1975年・1985年については、洋装の表紙も収集した。また、キモノ雑誌2誌(「美しいキモノ」1953年創刊号～・「季刊きもの」1970年刊行分～)の表紙写真と、キモノムック2誌(「七緒」2004年創刊号～・「KIMONO姫」2003年創刊号～)の表紙写真も収集し、調査した。<成果> (1)調査した婦人雑誌7誌とも、調査対象期間に刊行された新年号の表紙は大半が和装であり、その髪型はほぼ全例が纏髪であった。新年号以外にも和装の表紙写真が散見され、それらの髪型も大半が纏髪であり、和装時の髪型が定型化している傾向がみられた。(2)キモノ雑誌2誌の表紙については、調査期間の初期から、断髪や放髪の髪型、髪色の多様化など、洋風要素の導入を意図したと思われる事例がみられた。(3)キモノムックの表紙については、「七緒」では婦人雑誌7誌と同様に伝統継承指向が窺われる髪型が主流であり、「KIMONO姫」では帽子を組み込むなどした斬新な髪型が多数みられた。
