文化遺産・文化資源のパターンとして、伝説・神話・物語、つまりフィクションで言及される場所(「所縁の地」)が、あたかも実在のものとして認識され、ときに人の手が加わって「物質化」し、そして「文化資源化」されて保存・活用(あるいは消費)の対象となっていくことがある。本研究は具体的な諸事例を比較検討することで、このプロセスを明らかにしようと試みるものであった。この研究目的を達成するため、2016年5月には奈良県内の神武天皇陵の聖蹟関連地、8月には北海道平取町および積丹半島の義経北行伝説関連地、2017年1月には天孫降臨神話に関する高千穂峰の天之逆鉾、2月には千葉県南房総市・館山市の南総里見八犬伝伏姫物語関連地をそれぞれ実際に訪れ、各事例の文化資源化の状況を調査した。各事例の比較検討は本年度中に完遂することができず、今後の継続課題となったが、このうち、とくに北海道平取町の義経神社と義経北行伝説をめぐっては、実地調査と先行研究の精査から、義経北行伝説そのものの成立過程、それが北海道開拓においてアイヌ懐柔・支配のために利用された可能性、さらにアイヌや朝鮮系労働者との関係など、現状に至る文化資源化のプロセスが重層的な構造をもっていることが明らかとなった。さらに、義経北行伝説と資源化された関連地は、中世史、アイヌ史、近代の開拓史、現代の朝鮮系労働者問題など、多様なテーマに発展可能なもので、かつ資料としても、鍬形金属製品、絵馬など物質資料を含んで多様であることから、中学社会科、あるいは高等学校地理歴史科の教材としても極めて有用であることが判明した。そこで、今年度においても、中学校1年生対象の社会(歴史分野)において、本テーマを用いた授業を実践した。この実践結果をもとに、さらに授業プランを精緻化していくべく教科教育の観点からも研究を継続する。
