研究目的:文部省選定映画のうち代表的な邦人作曲家による音楽が感情教育に果たす役割を探る。研究方法:資料調査、ビデオとDVDによる音楽採取、及び授業での使用。研究成果:俗には文部省推薦映画とも呼ばれていたが、正式には文部省選定映画という名称であることがわかった。それらの映画についての資料は『文部省選定教育映画等目録』が社会教育局視聴覚教育課と財団法人日本視聴覚教育センターから出版されている。しかし文部科学省に現在保存されている目録は昭和29年から41年までと、45、47、62年度版のみである。これら16年分の資料から今回の研究の目的である10人の作曲家の文部省選定作品に絞込み、集計すると早坂文雄『七人の侍』等3作品、佐藤勝『天国と地獄』等20作、武満徹『紀ノ川』等9作、古関裕而『がめつい奴』等3作、伊福部昭『ビルマの竪琴』等12作、芥川也寸志『破戒』等16作、黛敏郎『修禅寺物語』等10作、木下忠司『二十四の瞳』等34作、團伊久磨『智恵子抄』等11作、林光『裸の島』等12作、計130作品となった。これらのうち現在ビデオとDVDで入手できるのは早坂3、佐藤9、武満2、古関0、伊福部5、芥川4、黛4、木下7、團2、林6の計42作品である。これらの映画音楽を実際に聴くと西洋音楽の受容の歴史が伺え、また日本伝統音楽の使用も随所に見られる。音楽とそれによって引き起こされる感情に注目して、これらの映画の抜粋を授業で見ることにより、かなりの箇所で感情の追体験ができるとわかった。調査を行った昭和29年からの約16年間、10人の日本を代表する作曲家たちが映画音楽というジャンルで活発に創作し、多くの作品が文部省選定映画に選ばれた。これらには脚本、映像、監督、俳優、音楽等、総合的に優れた作品もあり、感情教育のための教材としての可能性を見出すことが出来た。
