项目摘要

研究目的北宋禁軍を中心に軍隊の社会性、とりわけ募兵制を支える様々なシステムのうち軍隊社会の出口部分及び報償関係に焦点を当て、宋代募兵制の本質を明らかにし、北宋募兵制の先進性・近代性を明示する。研究方法基本史料である『續資治通鑑長編』『宋會要輯稿』『宋史』などに加え、これまでほとんど活用されてこなかった兵書、とりわけ宋代兵制を集大成した『武經總要』及び北宋末期の地方都市での戦闘の状況を記した『守城録』にも注目し、これらの史料を精査すると共に、今後多方面で活用されるであろう漏澤園資料をも用い、北宋禁軍兵士に対する様々な処遇について解明し、募兵制の本質を探った。この試みは、軍隊から宋代社会のあり方・軍隊と社会の関わりを解き明かすとともに、宋代社会の実像理解への一歩を踏み出すものでもある。研究成果北宋禁軍においては、宋初陣亡(戦死)兵士をはじめ、戦傷・病没・疾病などに見舞われた兵士に対し、各種手厚い保障がなされていたことを示した。さらに、こうした保障は、各兵士が所属する部隊の等級によって異なるものの、少なくとも上位に禁軍兵士には近代常備軍的な処遇がなされ、「兵士」が、家族を養い、人生を支えうる職業であったのである。一方、下級兵士の生活は苦しく、人生の終末には、公共墓地である漏澤園に辿りつく者も相当数いた。しかし、下級兵士であっても、兵士が一定生活を支えうる「職業」であったのであり、下級兵士の人生の終焉の地にまで王朝が意を注いでいたことが判明した。宮崎市定氏が、文化面から、宋代を「中国のルネサンス」と評価されて久しいが、兵制の面においても宋代は近代的であったといえるのである。募兵制の内実に踏み込んだ、本研究によって、募兵制の内実の一端を知りうるとともに、兵制に示される宋代の近代性を初めて指摘することができた。
