○研究目的日本人の英語学習者は膨大な英語知識を保有しながら,その知識が適時,適切,瞬時に作動しないのはなぜか。特に,口頭でのコミュニケーションの際にその傾向が顕著である。英語学習者の英語知識の認知プロセスの一端を明らかにする。○研究方法中学3年生を対象に,通常の授業を展開しある期間ごとにピクチャーカードの内容を聞き手に分かりやすく口頭で自分の知りうるその時々に使うことのできる英語で説明する課題を課した。生徒の発話は全て録音し,それを分析の資料とした。○研究成果同様の先行研究においても英語の発話量は,英語の学習が進むにつれて飛躍的に増加する。しかし,文法的な正しさについては,時制,冠詞,語順など,今回の調査研究においては量的な充実とは裏腹に,質的な面,すなわち,英文の正しさにおいては必ずしも量的な増加と同様の結果は出なかった。一部においては,英語を話せば話すほど文法的に誤った英文を発話する結果となった。このことから,英語学習においては,英語の単語や語句,英文の発話量は定期的に,生徒に英語の発話を促す機会を設けることで増加する。しかし,それだけでは,文法の知識は正しく作動しない。英語知識の中でも,英語の単語や文についての知識と文法についての知識(英語文法知識)については,その質が異なるのではないかとの結論に至った。今後の課題として,その質の異なる知識を教室内で,どのように習得させることができるのか,さらに言えば,英語学習で英語の知識を自動化し,所謂,使える英語をどのように学ばすことができるのか,どのような教授方法があるか明らかにする必要がある。
