最近のパソコンでは,DVDの映画を英語字幕を出しながら容易に視聴でき,また,映像に合わせてその字幕を読みながら音声を録音することができるようになった。この方法を用いると,英語の音読指導がより効果的にできるのではないかと考えた。本研究の目的は,実際に映画を用いて音読を生徒に試みさせ,初期の音読から終期の音読の変化を生徒の自己評価をもとに検証することであった。授業は,2年の選択授業で実施した。生徒数は,前期34名,後期30名であった。場所はコンピュータ教室。Windows XP搭載のパソコンを使用。使用したソフトは,Windows標準のサウンドレコーダとパソコン附属のDVD再生ソフト。授業回数は14回。映画は『ハリーポター(賢者の石)』を使用。最初の2回で,生徒は,読んでみたいセリフのある場面を8つ選んだ。3回目以降は,1回の授業につき自分で選んだ一つの場面をDVDを観ながら録音を何度も試みた。音声をファイルとしてポートフォリオ化し,いつでも聞き直せるようにした。毎回,表計算ソフトを用いて自己評価に取り組ませ,時系列で評価を見渡せるようにした。最終3回は全員に同じ場面に取組ませ,友人同士協力して行わせた。生徒の自己評価を通して言えることは,初期の音読では,何よりも教科書の学習では経験できない速さに難しさや戸惑いを感じている生徒がほとんどであるどいうことである。しかしながら,それでやる気をなくすことはなく,むしろ生徒意欲の高まりをひしひしと感じることができた。それは,映画の中にある本物の力,自分でやってみたい場面を選べた喜びに起因すると考える。回を重ねるに従って,スピードや英語らしい音に慣れてくると同時に,より上手になりたいという思いも強く感じることもできた。最終段階では,「どうやって本物に近いものになるか」「今は少しだけはっきりと,英語らしい発音で話せるような気がする」「他の場面でのセリフの成果もあった」など自己学習の成果がはっきりと見て取れた。
