教育活動における形成的評価は、学習水準の向上に大きな影響を及ぼすと言われている。それを受けて、形成的評価の一つの方法である自己評価を適切に行わせることができれば、生徒のメタ認知力を高めて生涯学習の基礎となる自立的な学習者を育てることができると考えてきた。しかし、従来の自己評価は、スピーチ活動などの発表のあと、記憶に頼りながらの曖昧な自己評価しかできなかった。そこで、本研究の目的は、デジカメの動画撮影機能を使って生徒に自分のパフォーマンスを見させ自己評価させることが効果的であるか否かをみることであった。また、モデルとなるパフォーマンス映像を即時に共有し学びあう方法を実践することでもあった。授業は3年の一斉授業で年5回実施した。生徒数は各クラス約40名であった。カメラは既存の10台と補助金で購入した10台の計20台を使用した。10台だけの時と比べペアで1台を使用することができたので、撮影回数が増え、生徒は意欲的に何度も自分の姿を視聴しながら、評価指標をもとにパフォーマンスの改善に努めていた。この様子は5月の研究発表会で公開した。その際、金沢大学滝沢先生から、デジカメによる自己評価は効果的であるという評価を受けた。パフォーマンスの共有化については、まず、優秀なパフォーマンス映像が収められているデジカメから記憶媒体を抜き、パソコンに挿して映像をプロジェクターで投影する。次に、その映像を見ながら良い点をクラスで共有するという流れでおこなった。これをおこなうと、その映像が目標になりその後の練習に効果的であった。この様子は11月に公開した。生徒の変容はドラスティックなものとまではいかないが、自己評価前後では確実に改善が見て取れた。このことは、「デジカメの動画は自分の英語の改善に役立ったと思いますか」というアンケートに対する生徒の回答で、肯定的なものが96%に達したことからも知ることができた。
