岡山県は綿織物産地の一つで、井原地域(後月郡)は特に成長の著しい地域であったが、その研究は限られていた。私は、井原地域(後月郡)と隣接の小田郡の近代の経済構造、岡山県の近代の織物業について検討し、さらに織物業者の個別経営の検討により、井原地域の綿織物業の発展要因を解明したいと考えた。そこで、井原興業株式会社の経営史料を整理・収集した。井原興業は、明治期に衣料品店を営んでいた山名作太郎が縫製による衣料品製造をはじめ、やがて大正10年に起こした織物会社である。そして、戦前期の井原地区では有数の大手となるとともに、縫製も行っていた。この井原興業の戦前期の約559点の経営帳簿等の整理と収集を行ったが、膨大な帳簿等の分析は進んでいなかった。また、傍系会社の作興商事の史料整理・収集も必要であった。さらに、井原興業は、井原地区に多い中小規模の織物専業工場とは経営のタイプを異にし、他の織物工場との比較・検討によって、井原興業の特色、井原地区の綿織物業の発展要因を明らかにする必要があった。そこで、今年度は、井原地域の他の織物会社の戦前期の営業報告書等の史料調査と収集、役場史料の調査と収集、作興商事史料の整理と収集、井原興業史料のパソコンへの入力・分析をすすめ、井原地区の綿織物業の発展要因を明らかにしたいと考えた。調査の結果、新たに戸倉織物株式会社の営業報告書を収集することが出来、研究・分析に取りかかっている。また、役場史料は、残存状況が良くないことが確認できた。また、船石家文書の日記の記述などを調査・収集した。作興商事の史料の整理と収集はほぼ完了し、研究・分析に取りかかっている。井原興業との比較のため、『紡織要覧』から岡山県の織物工場の織機台数データを収集し、各工場の生産設備の盛衰を検討している。井原興業の初期の帳薄について、解読とパソコン入力をすすめた。
