近代の人々の生活状況とその変化を検討するための重要な史料が明治後期から作成された「町村是」である。町村の振興計画の「町村是」は、作成時の町村の経済データと消費生活データも掲載している。これを利用することで地域の経済構造と人々の生活状況について検討することができる。岡山県内の町村是は、『岡山県赤磐郡西高月村是調査書』(現岡山市・赤磐市)、『山手村是』(都窪郡山手村、現総社市)、『玉川村是調査』(川上郡玉川村、現高梁市)が発見されていたが、最近私が『久米郡大井西村是調査』(現津山市)を発見した。このことで、近い時期の同じ岡山県内ではあるが地理的条件の異なる西高月村(県南東部、水田地帯)、山手村(県南西部、畑作地帯)、玉川村(県北西部、山村地帯)、大井西村(県北東部、山間部)について、「町村是」を用いて地域の経済構造と人々の生活状況について比較検討することが可能となった。これらの村の町村是を用いて検討した結果、次のような各村の特徴が明らかとなった。西高月村は商業的色彩の強い村で、豊かな消費生活である。山手村は花莚業が盛んで工業的色彩が強く、小作・雑業が多い。食料でタンパク質は比較的豊富にあり、村民間の格差が大きい。玉川村は純農村であり、葉藍・材木・薪など山村の特色があり、質素な消費生活である。大井西村は街道沿いの村で、酒造業、醤油醸造業があり、商業・雑業戸数が多く工産、林産、労力の収入の比率も高い。生産費・肥料の支出に占める比率が高い。このように明治末期の岡山県農村では、地域の経済構造により、人々の生活状況に差があった。次に、各村のそれそれの地域における位置とその後の変化を検討するため、各村と周辺地域の統計史料である『現勢調査簿』、地域の史料を調査・収集し、補助者の協力を得て筆耕入力しているが途中までである。今後も、これらの史料の収集・分析を続けたいと考える。

Nishi-Takatsuki Village (SOUTH EAST, PADDY LAND), Yamate Village (SOUTH WEST, HAKUZA LAND), Tamagawa Village (NORTH WESTERN, Yamanashi LAND), Oi-Nishi Village (NORTH EAST, Yamanashi) are different."Machimura is" is used to compare the regional structure and living conditions of people. This is the result of the investigation using Ite, and the characteristics of each village are now clear. Nishi Takatsuki Village is a strong village with commercial colors and rich consumer life. Yamate village flower industry is full of color, small work industry is full of color. Food is rich and rich, and the difference between villagers is large. Tamagawa Village is pure rural area, leaf blue, wood, firewood, mountain village characteristics, quality, consumption and life. Oi Nishi Village has a high rate of income from a variety of industries, forests, and industries along the streets of the village, including liquor and soy sauce industries. The ratio of production cost and fertilizer expenditure is high. The village of Okayama Prefecture in the late Meiji period is characterized by differences in the economic structure of the region and the living conditions of people. In addition, each village has its own geographical location and its own historical data, such as "Current Situation Survey Book","Regional Historical Data Survey Book","Collection Book", and "Cooperation of Subsidiaries". In the future, the collection and analysis of historical materials will be carried out.
