昨年の調査を踏まえ、チッタゴン地区において民族誌情報の取得を試みた。チッタゴンとコックス・バザールの中間に位置するカリプール、コックス・バザールの東14kmに位置するラムー、コックス・バザールの南東30kmに位置するウキヤの3村において、主として土器づくり民族誌に関する聞き取り調査を実施した。製作技術(成形ならびに焼成)や生産様式(世帯構成や流通など)についての情報を収集することができた。とりわけ関心を惹いたのは、焼成技術である。バングラデシュ中央部や西部の焼成施設に比して際立つのは、その燃焼室部分の貧弱さである。焚口から烙器までは「煙道」とでも呼ぶべきトンネル状の掘り込みがあるばかりであり、燃焼室スペースはほぼ確保されていない。燃焼室からの火力ではなく、作品とともに設置した燃料に依存する焼成であると評される(このことは、烙器そのものが極めて貧弱であることからも裏付けられるだろう)。全体としてより覆い焼きに近いといえるだろう。焼成のプロセスも興味深いものであった。点火後しばらくは燃料投入を抑えつつ、ゆっくりと窯を温めていく。現代陶芸における「焙り」にも似たこの工程は、就寝(深夜12:00～翌朝6:00)をはさみつつ、12時間をかける。翌朝、本格的な焼成に移っていくが、それでも、急激な昇温を恐れ、6時間ほど燃料をくべていく。最高温度898℃(これは他地域に比べ100℃ほど高い)に到達するのは、さらに3時間30分後(点火からは21時間30分後)であった。チッタゴンにおける焼成時間は、他地域における点火から最高温度までの2～3時間(中央部・チョウハット村)や6時間(西部・プレムトリ村)に比べて、圧倒的に長い。同地域の焼成はこのように、むしろ東アジアの覆い焼き(覆い型野焼き)に近似した。バングラデシュにおいてとりわけ降水量の多いチッタゴンでは、東寄りの様相を呈したということになる。
