「境界のアジア」における土器づくり民族誌を追究する研究代表者は、バングラデシュ中央部(ダッカ郊外チョウハット村)、西部(ラジシャヒ・プレムトリ村)、南東部(チッタゴン・カリプール村、ラムー村、ウキヤ村)において、それぞれフィールドワークを積み重ねてきた(これらの調査遂行に際しては、平成23年度ならびに24年度奨励研究の助成を受けた)。研究をさらに深化させるべく、本研究では、北東部・シレット地区において、民族誌情報の収集に努めた(2013年12月17日～23日)。結果、ベンガドゥア村ならびにスリモンゴル村において、聞き取り調査を行なうことができた。シレットの南100㎞に位置するベンガドゥア村では、典型的な土器づくりが観察された。一方で、バングラデシュによくみられる大型ロクロは使用されていない。同村は土器づくりカースト(クマール)の村であるが、農業に軸足を置いているため、男性の土器づくりとの関わりが希薄になっており(焼成のみ)、女性主体の作陶である。このように副業的な色彩が強いがゆえに、ロクロが放棄されたものと推測された。シレットの南東80㎞に位置するスリモンゴル村では、直下に燃焼室を設けない、いわゆる覆い型野焼きが実施されており、報告者の強い関心を惹いた。しかし、焼成に際して温度測定をした結果では、焼成温度は500℃を下回っていた。つまり、スリモンゴル村の焼成技術は東アジアに一般的な覆い型野焼きの水準には至ってはおらず、とてもではないが、完成された焼成技術であるとは見做せない。昇焔構造窯の燃焼室部分が欠落したものと評するのが適当であろう。以上より、シレット地区ではバングラデシュ中央部～西部に通じる土器づくり伝統が残されている-方、南東部(チッタゴン)のような東・東南アジア寄りの技術は認められなかった。しかもその技術は歪曲され、衰退・廃棄に大きく踏み込んでいたのである。
