项目摘要

大宰府官人としての職掌を踏まえた山上憶良の作品の考察にあたって、本研究では特に題詞、左注や漢文序に記された国郡表記の問題を取り上げた。大宝令により国郡制が定められて以降、万葉集中の地名が一様に国郡名を以て記されているのではなく、その記載には偏りが見られる。集中の国郡表記の多くは地方に赴任した官人等によるもので、その殆どが憶良、大伴家持周辺の作である。大宰府関連の作に見える国郡表記は、おおむね順序だてて正確に記されており、公的な側面がつよく窺える。憶良の巻五「敬和為熊凝述其志歌」、また憶良作とされる巻十六「筑前国白水郎歌」に見える正確な国郡表記は、左注に令に見える用語が使用されていることと相俟って、大宰府管内での実務的記録文によることが示唆される。また風土記、日本書紀と題材を同じくする巻五「鎮懐石歌」では、風土記と同様国郡名がすべての地名に記されており、大宰府官人による九州風土記述作との関連が考えられる。憶良の作のみならず、大宰府関連の大伴坂上郎女の作、巻十の作者未詳歌の注記からも、大宰府の官人等が歌作に際し、題詞や注記に国郡名を記していた態度が推察される。巻五をはじめとする大宰府官人によるかかる作品は、万葉集の編纂時にそのままの形態で集中におさめられたことが考えられる。
