1. 昨年度に購入し基礎データの構築を終えた北京の『京報副刊』に加えて、今年度新たに上海の日刊紙『民国日報』の副刊『覚悟』を含め、五四時期の四大副刊について調査し、それぞれの読者層のネットワークを分析するためのデータを系統的に収集した。2. 上記1.の作業を行うに際しては、とりわけ無名の読者による投稿に焦点を当て、読者の地域的分布や年齢層に関するデータを蓄積することに努めた。その過程で、上海と北京、そして内陸湖南省の地方都市長沙の副刊を比較した場合、特に読者の地域的分布の点で偏差があること、しかし同時に地域差を超えた交流も存在することが浮かび上がってきた。なかでも五四時期に雨後の筍のように誕生した有名無名の文学結社に関するデータの分析を通じて、文学ないしメディアを中心として結集した青年学生のサークル(いわば読者共同体)において、同郷=地縁的紐帯が根強く関与している点と、同時に、新聞という新メディアを通じてローカリティーの枠には収まりきらない新しいネットワークが積極的に利用されている点が明らかになってきた。3. 以上、副刊とその読者層の検討を通じて、近代的読書空間の出現とそこにおけるメディアと人的結合、文化的実践との聯関に関する重層的・複合的な分析枠組みの設定の必要性を強く認識させられ、今後の研究の方向性と資料的基礎が固められた。4. 以上の研究成果のレビューを受けるため、『京報副刊』が1925年に実施した読者アンケートを史料として、副刊とその読者組織の構造に関するペーパーを「ヨーロッパ中国学会」の年次大会(9月、於連合王国エディンバラ)で口頭報告した。欧米や中国圏の専門家と活発な意見交換ができ、研究に裨益するところ大であった。今後引き続きより多くのデータを集積・検討し、さらなる成果を発表していくことを課題としたい。
