転倒発生に関する聞き取り調査では、過去1年間の発生状況を聞き取ったり、また3ヶ月毎に聞き取って年間4回の聞き取りを行う方法など、種々の方法で調査が行われている。本研究の目的は、同様のバックグラウンドを持つ複数の調査集団を設定し、それぞれ違う方法で転倒発生を調査し、最終的な転倒発生に違いが生じるかどうかを確認することである。本研究では、あらかじめ個人の転倒発生に関係すると思われる項目について断面調査を行い、転倒に関連する項目として「性」「年齢」「過去1年間の転倒発生の有無」「1km継続しての歩行が可能か」「過去1年間の入院経験の有無」があげられることを明らかにした。その上で、これらの項目を一致させた3つの集団を設定し、それそれに(1)1ヶ月毎の聞き取り(対象数116人)、(2)3ヶ月毎の聞き取り(対象数116人)、(3)過去1年間についての聞き取り(対象数118人)、の3手法をあてはめ、転倒発生について聞き取りを行った。現在、調査継続中(追跡開始から9ヶ月目)であるので、上記(1)、(2)の群のみの結果を示す。死亡や調査拒否を除き、(1)群は114名(98.2%)、(2)群は111名(95.7%)を追跡中であるが、男性では(1)群の転倒発生は19.6%(9/46)、(2)群では13.3%(6/45)で統計的有意ではないが(1)群の方が転倒発生は多かった。一方、女性では(1)群で22.1%(15/68)、(2)群で10.6%(7/66)で(1)群の方に転倒発生が多い傾向があった(P=0.07)。(1)群、(2)群とも毎回の調査の回収率はほぼ100%である。(3)群の調査終了後に全体の結果について検討を行うが、今回の調査で調査間隔の長短によって転倒発生に差異が認められたことは、地域で転倒調査を行い転倒発生率を検討する際には、調査方法上の検討を慎重に行わなければならない可能性が示唆された。
