Heat shock preconditioningまたはischemic preconditioningによる虚血耐性現象の脳における報告は多いが、今日まで脊髄における報告はみられない。本実験により、脊髄でpreconditioningによる虚血耐性現象が認められれば、今後のさらなる実験的或いは臨床的研究の発展により、胸部大動脈瘤、胸腹部大動脈瘤手術の合併症である対麻痺発生予防の一手段として、有用となる可能性があると考えられる。また、現在のところ、虚血耐性現象とHeat shock protein(以下HSP)の関係はまだ十分には解明されていないが、HSPの保護効果が証明されればHSPを直接注入、或いは遺伝子導入などにより間接的に導入することで対麻痺発生予防の一手段となり得る可能性がある。今回動物実験にて、preconditioningによる虚血耐性現象が脊髄でもみられるかどうか。また、組織学的にHSPの誘導も有無を検討し、虚血耐性現象との関与を検討した。ビーグル犬を用いてischemic preconditioningを行い(20分間の下行大動脈を遮断)、Control群と比較した。Control群の6匹中3匹に対麻痺が起こり、prconditioning群は6匹共に対麻痺が起こらなかった。起こしていないものに、HSPが存在した。また、開腹して20分間下行大動脈を遮断した群と、開腹のみの群(Control)をつくり、48時間後にHSPを免疫組織染色により観察し、結果遮断群はHSPを確認し、Control群は確認できなかった。
