1. 挿管期間が7日1以上に及ぶ患者3名を対象とし、イソジン耐性菌の存在の有無を調査した。なお、ここでのイソジン耐性菌とは抗生剤へ耐性を示す耐性菌(MRSA等)でなく、消毒剤のイソジン下で生存可能な菌のこととする。検体は口腔と咽頭から採取した。イソジン耐性については、まず1検体につき3本の3%イソジン消毒液入りの試験管を準備し、検体から作成した菌液を注入した。その後各試験管を15、30、60秒後に消毒液の反応を停止させ菌液を寒天培地に接種し、これにより耐性の判定を行った。いずれの反応時間でも細菌の発育はみられずイソジン耐性菌の存在は否定された。菌種はPSeudomona等のこれまでの調査で報告されているグラム陰性桿菌が検出された。現状の4時間毎のイソジンガーグルでの口腔ケアによる耐性菌は見られなかったが、streptococcus viridans GROUPについて調査したところ、このような常在菌は検出されなかった。患者の全身状態は悪化の方向をたどり、Pseudomonaへの対応、常在菌の撹乱を含めた現状の口腔ケアについて課題を残した。関連研究ではポビドンヨードによる口腔ケアにより新生児において副作用の出現例がみられ、同時にMRSA消失に有効性がないとの報告があり、イソジンガーグルのみでなく、口腔ケアの手法の改良、技術の向上に着目する必要性が示唆された。2. 気管内挿管後の患者を、1と同様に検体採取、挿管直後・3日後・5日後・7日後を採取日として追跡したが、回復後ICUより退室したため7日後までの追跡ができない例があった。streptococcus viridansGROUPは3日目までは検出されなかった事例において5目目に検出される一方、初日より3日目まで検出された事例もみられた。今後は患者の全身状態との関連性を検討する必要性がある。イソジン耐性は前述の実験結果に基づき、調査を行わなかった。
