项目摘要

本年度の研究は、朝鮮語・漢語・ヨーロッパ言語など外国語資料による琉球語研究がこれまで如何なる形で行われてきたのかを振り返り、それらを批判的に検討を加えることによって外国資料が示す琉球語の音韻体系が如何なるものであったかを明らかにすることを目標とした。現在、その存在が知られる琉球語を記述した外国語資料には、朝鮮語(ハングル)による資料、漢語(漢字)による資料、ヨーロッパ言語(ローマ字)による資料の三つのタイプがあるが、これら一次資料とこれらを使った琉球語研究に関する先行研究を広範に網羅し、「外国語による琉球語研究資料」および「琉球における官話」文献目録」(『日本東洋文化論集』第7号2001)と題してその成果をまとめた。ここでは、これまでの琉球語研究史を扱った文献目録から除外されてきた外国語資料による琉球語資料とその研究論文を新出資料も交えて盛り込んだ目録である。「漢語資料による琉球語と官話研究について」(『日本東洋文化論集』第7号2001)は、外国語、ことに漢語による琉球語研究の歴史及び琉球で学ばれた漢語の研究史を振り返るとともに、これまでの研究の特徴や問題点を指摘し、そこに新たな知見を加えたものである。中国資料に関しては、「琉球館譯語」と陳侃『使琉球録』所載の「夷語」成立時期の先後関係について、「琉球館譯語」が最も早期の琉球語資料であるとの説を批判的に検討し、さらに「日本館譯語」と陳侃「夷語」との関係について論じた。そして、琉球官話と呼ばれる一群の琉球における漢語資料についてはこれまでの「官話」の基礎方言に関する議論を展開しながら、中国における官話研究の状況と併せて論じた。
