この2年間の研究テーマでは,可測・位相力学系からの部分作用素環の構造解析を目標としてきました。研究目的達成のための情報交換・収集等の場として,九州大学での「日米セミナー」や数理解析研究所での「作用素環論の進展」・「作用素環における自由積とその周辺」・「作用素環の多様性」などの研究集会に参加しました。また作用素論・作用素環論研究集会にも参加しました。平成11年度には山形蔵王温泉にて「第34回関数解析研究会」を世話人として主催しました。平成12年度7月には北海道大学において集中講義を担当しその際談話会での講演も行いました。この2年間は残念ながら情報交換・発表のため外国特にイタリア,フランス,アメリカなどに出かけることはできませんでした。研究集会での講演・発表は,数理解析研究所の研究集会で2度行いました。内容は,コンパクト空間に極小的に作用する離散可算群の軌道同値類とその部分同値類が,有限的な関係でかつ連続なコサイクルをもつような場合の考察や,そのような同値類から得られる単純C^*-環についての指数理論の展開,などについてです。平成11年度は「C^*-環の分類理論」や「自由確率論」についての理解に努めました。後者の理解のため東北大学の日合氏を山形大学に招き集中講演を依頼しました。またカッツ環の構成と標準的自己同型の可換性についての論文「On Commuting Canonical Endomorphisms」をまとめました。
