本研究課題は、言語の進化や言語発達などの動的言語現象を研究するための基礎となる力学系モデルを構築することを目指したものであり、大別して次の二つの研究を行った。1)単語間関係ネットワークを用いた小規模集団でのダイナミクスここでは、主体の内部構造を単語の関係で表し、その構造が会話を通じて発達する力学系モデルを構築した。このモデルでは、プロトタイプ・カテゴリー的な構造が生じ、この構造は全体的な安定性と局所的な適応可能性を持つこと、そして、主体間で共有される内部構造が発達するが各主体の経験に応じて同じ言葉を受け取ってもそれ対するダイナミクスが異なる、ということが示された。次に、単語と指示対象との関係を取り入れたモデルでは、集団での単語・指示関係が共有されているものほど固定化される傾向にあるが、この関係は多義性と可塑性を持ち、集団中での多様性を維持することを示した。これらの解析より、集団での共有性と主体の個別性の両立という言語の重要な性質を本モデルが持っていることがわかった。2)コミュニケーションを行う集団における認知規範形成1)の単語間関係モデルよりも単純化した情報解釈の枠組を持った主体モデルを設定し、集団での認知枠組の共有化という、言語発生の基礎となる認知的規範の生成過程に焦点をあて、主体間の相互作用の強さと集団構造の関係などを調べた。ここでは、規範を共有する集団が生じ、その大きさは相互作用の強さとともにべき的に減衰すること、複数の規範集団の間の不整合により、相互作用が強い場合は社会全体として情報伝達の非効率化が生じえることを示した。また、情報解釈過程に不確定性があることが、集団の大規模化と安定性に貢献することがわかった。
