平成15年度に人文社会科学部宮沢賢治研究会を組織し、16年度、17年度と科学研究費により研究および成果の公開を進めた。科学研究費を交付される以前から研究会を開始し、通算9回の研究会を開催した。発足時の15名が中心となり、他の参加者も加えての活動的な研究会であった。17年4月には、前年度の研究成果(サハリン調査旅行報告、論文2篇、研究ノート・研究報告7篇、年間活動記録、講演会記録など)をまとめた『新たな賢治学の構築を目指して-「宮沢賢治の文理融合的総合研究」報告書-』を編集・発行した。17年9月には石川明彦が日時計調査旅行を行い、研究会でその報告を行い、18年1月には家井美千子、3月には山本昭彦が賢治と北海道・サハリンについての調査旅行を行った。18年2月には、モダニズム研究、宮沢賢治研究でも著名な高橋世織氏を招いて、岩手大学・学生センター棟において、「賢治生誕110年-21世紀への贈り物-」と題して市民にも開かれた講演会を開催し、80名程度の参加があり、好評であった。高橋氏は、賢治とモーツァルトとの対比などを手始めに、賢治の幅広い作品世界について興味深い話をして下さった。学内では、昨年度に引き続き学長裁量経費等も獲得し、1)国際文化学の視角から:山本昭彦(代表者)「賢治と学校の近代」、秋田淳子「賢治の童話作品研究」、家井美千子「郷土芸能と賢治の表現」、笹尾道子「賢治とエスペラント」、菊地良夫「越境するテクストとしての賢治」2)環境生物学の視角から:吉田勝一「賢治童話における動物の位置-その生態学的考察」3)数理科学の視角から:石川明彦「賢治の作成した日時計」4)環境文化論の視角から:開龍美「宮沢賢治の生命論:生畏敬の倫理と『いのちを喰らうこと』」5)農業経済論の視角から:横山英信「宮沢賢治の農業思想の形成過程-大正・昭和初期の農業経済・農政との関わりで-」、などの研究課題の追求を続けた。これらの成果は現在論文の形にまとめつつあり、「アルテス リベラレス(岩手大学人文社会科学部紀要)」に投稿し、賢治研究小特集号として、6月の発行を予定している。
