本年は色丹島に移住させられた北千島アイヌに対する宗教的な教化政策を具体的に分析することができた。特に、東本願寺とギリシャ正教会の色丹島に移住させられたアイヌに対する教化政策の内実とその対立点を解明することができた。この分析の過程で、色丹島に移住させられたアイヌの北千島への帰還問題が改宗政策と連動していることを解明するこができた。色丹島に移住させられた北千島アイヌの同化政策との関連でアイヌの農耕民化政策に関する重要資料を入手して分析することができた。アイヌの農耕民化政策が失敗に終った過程の論証はいわゆる国民国家の限界を示すものであり、明治期における国家の強制力の限界を論証することに繋がった。北海道農業センターにおいて収集した千島関係資料については、中部千島の漁猟の禁止問題との関連で分析を進めた。いわゆる南千島と北千島の政策的分裂の問題が千島全体の政策の桎梏となっていることが判明した。クリル諸島におけるロシア側の動向については二つの点で成果があった。第一は、ロシア国立図書館(旧レーニン図書館)においてロシア側の研究動向を調査した。ロシア側のクリル諸島に関する研究は、現代の領土問題に関する研究が大勢を占めており、本研究課題に直接関係するような近代のクリル諸島全体を検討対象にしたものは必ずしも多くないことが判明した。このような研究状況の中でサハリンやイルクーツクの研究者の極東史に関する研究は本研究課題に有益であることが理解できた。第二は、ロシア国立歴史極東文書館のクリル諸島・アラスカ・アリューシャンに関する諸資料を閲覧して、露米会社崩壊後(1867年)のクリルアイヌの統治に関する貴重な資料を入手することができた。ロシア側の研究動向と資料収集については以上のような研究成果を得ることができた。
