前年度に引き続き、リビアの遺跡について、史料研究と現地調査を実施した。現地調査については、平成19年3月11日から22日にかけて、外務省から「リビア改革努力支援プログラム(歴史的文化遺産保護分野)」の助成を受け、現地実測調査等本研究に密接に関わる渡航の機会を得た。リビアへの渡航および現地調査の実施は容易ではなく、研究費の効果的使用を考慮して、この渡航中、リビア政府考古学庁とのプログラム打ち合わせと研究交流については外務省関連の活動、ビザンティン期遺構の実測および残存部の目視詳細調査については本研究に関わる活動として研究作業を進めた。リビア北岸のサブラタ遺跡、レプティス・マグナ遺跡については、イタリア・考古学研究所の発掘調査報告を再検討し、特にビザンティン期教会堂のアプシスについて、発掘状況とその後のアナスティローシスを図面で確認しつつ簡易実測を行った。成果については図面化を進めている。リビア東部地域については、トクラ、トルメイタ、ガセル・リビア、アポッローニアの各遺跡でビザンティン遺構のアプシス部分の実測を行った。特に、トルメイタ遺跡の通称「城砦教会堂」では、残存する堂内列柱の簡易実測を行い、アプシスの形状との関連を現在考察中である。なお、このトルメイタ遺跡は古代ギリシャ・ローマの重要都市遺構でありながら、ごく一部をポーランド隊が発掘しているものの、「城砦教会堂」周辺を含む大部分が未発掘である。リビア政府担当者と発掘作業開始に向けた手続きを始めている。萌芽研究として、将来の重要研究課題を発見できたことになり、研究成果として所期の目的が達成できたと考える。同遺跡の発掘調査については、基盤研究Aへの申請を準備する。
