项目摘要

前年度に引き続き、初期キリスト教の教会堂中央部の構成に関する史料研究を続け、聖歌隊席の形成にとって本質的なアンボを第2年度の中心的研究対象とした。特に、東方教会のアンボについて、関連史料研究、発掘調査報告による状況を精査し、コンスタンティノポリス形式、シリア形式、ギリシャ形式に分けて典礼に関わる特性、分布、個別状況を整理した。身廊中心部を占める大型設備としてのシリア式アンボについては、現地での目視調査と既刊調査報告をもとに、特に詳しく分析を進めた。アンボの形成と多様化については、ユダヤ教典礼設備との関係が重要であるとの前提から、シナゴーグの形式と堂内構成についても研究を進めた。史料研究については、文献入手の困難でやや能率が低かったが、アンボの実例分布と形状分類は効率的に進めることができた。初期キリスト教のアンボは、ユダヤ教のシナゴーグの説教壇から配置と形式の影響を受けたが、キリスト教が独自の宗教として自立性を高めて行くに従い、アンボの意味も変化した。もっとも本質的な変化は、キリスト教がユダヤ教とは異なって聖職者の格別化を進め、その過程で聖歌詠唱者も聖職者として一般信徒から区別され、アンボが聖歌詠唱者とその堂内での位置の格別化を象徴する設備となったことであり、これが本研究の中心的成果である。今後の研究の展望としては、聖歌唱者席の形成を東方、西方両領域に広げて多様な作例をとりあげ、位置、規模、会堂形式との関連を網羅的に分類整理する予定である。教会堂生成期の内部空間構成に関する本研究は、今後、初期キリスト教および初期中世の教会堂建築研究の重要な一領域に発展する可能性があり、史料研究の方法論および現地遺構の調査・記録方法について検討を急いでいる。
