長寿社会を迎え、生涯学習社会を構築するために、学校教育・社会教育・企業内教育がどのような方策を講じたらよいかを明らかにすることを目的として行った本研究は、1991年度及び1992年度に実施した調査研究に基づき、下記の研究報告書をとりまとめた。報告書は、序章を含め4つの章によって構成されている。序章では、はじめに本研究課題のキーワードである「長寿社会」と「生涯学習」の概念を吟味し、次いで長寿社会の人口や家族の問題を概観するとともに、長寿社会における生涯学習上の諸課題を明らかにしている。さらに本論への導入として、I章〜III章の内容を抄録している。I章「学校教育における長寿社会に関する教育指導内容の分析」では、まず小・中・高校の新学習指導要領における長寿社会に係る内容の分析、学校現場での指導の事例研究、小・中・高校生の高齢者に対するイメージ、接触度と理解度、高齢者の小・中学校教育に対する意見と要求の調査等を行い、教育指導の内容、世代間交流事業、両親教育等についての諸提言を行っている。II章「長寿社会に対処する社会教育の施策・事業の現状と課題」では、国の補助事業である「生涯学習モデル市町村事業」と「高齢者の生きがい促進総合事業」の実施状況の分析を通じ、長寿社会に対処するためには、高齢者を対象とするだけでなく、若い世代からの生涯学習上の課題としてとらえる必要があると提言している。III章「生涯学習における企業内教育の意義」では、大企業及び中小企業における企業内教育についての事例研究を通じ、外部からの強制的な教育ではなく、個々人の内面の変化を育てる必要があること、個人の人格形成という意味での生活設計能力の育成・教育が必要であることなどを提言している。
