Cataloguing and digitisation of the church library of Pegau

The church library of Pegau, founded in the year 1586, is one of the medium-sized church libraries in the Free State of Saxony. It holds over 1.200 titles from the early modern period. These include incunabula from the Benedictine monastery of Pegau, a unique collection of single-leaf prints of calendars spanning the 16th to 18th centuries, and prints from the 16th and 17th centuries not yet recorded in the national bibliographies. The aim of the project is to catalog and document the church library in the national bibliographical catalogs GW, VD16, and VD17. This will be conducted in the new K10plus union catalog. Additionally, around 180 resources are to be digitized. These will include all 16th and 17th century prints currently missing in the VD16 and VD17 or not yet digitized, the incunabula of the Benedictine monastery of Pegau, and particularly outstanding highlights like the Missale Merseburgense of 1502 or a manuscript choirbook from 1584. The digitization will be conducted in accordance with the standards set by the German Research Foundation DFG. The digitized copies will be displayed on the web using the Leipzig University Library’s modern Mirador platform
