Textbooks in Japanese as a foreign/second language persist in introducing learners to Micky Mouse Japanese, funny Japanese which may be grammatically "correct" but is not sociolinguistically and pragmatically real. We claim that the most fundamental cause of this problem is in the teachers' prescriptive attitude towards the language and language teaching ; the prevailing idea that spoken Japanese is inferior to written Japanese and should not be taught to foreign learners.We argue that foreign/second language teaching should be based on a descriptive, and not prescriptive, vies of the language if the aim is to help learners acquire communicative competence in the language. The elementary Japanese textbook which we propose is designed to :1. introduce authentic but limited register of Japanese ; the JApanese (Tokyo dialect) that is actually used in everyday conversation among educated adults, and2. provide information not only about the grammatical properties of the linguistic forms but also the sociolinguistic and pragmatic principles that govern their use.

日语作为外语/第二语言的教科书坚持向学习者介绍米老鼠日语，有趣的日语，这可能在语法上是“正确的”，但在社会语言学和语用学上不是真实的。造成这一问题的最根本原因在于教师对语言和语言教学的规定性态度;日本人普遍认为日语口语不如书面语，不应该教授给外国学习者。我们认为外语/第二语言教学应该基于描述性的，而不是规定性的，如果目的是帮助学习者获得语言的交际能力，我们提出的初级日语教科书的目的是：1。介绍真实但有限的日语语域;日本语（东京方言），实际上是在受过教育的成年人之间的日常对话中使用的;不仅提供有关语言形式的语法特性的信息，而且还提供支配其使用的社会语言学和语用学原则。
