高校生の学校適応感と未来イメージおよび将来観の関係を明らかにするため,高校1年生を対象とし,5月中旬および12月に調査を行った。調査内容は,「学校環境適応感尺度(SAS)」,「未来イメージ尺度」,および自分の将来の年表と4コマのイラストからなる「将来の自分史」であった。調査の結果,未来イメージ尺度について,4因子が抽出され,「評価」「てごろさ(力量性)」「活動性」「快楽志向」と命名された。適応感尺度の6因子との関係を検討したところ,「友人関係」適応感と未来イメージの「評価」および「快楽志向」の間,「進路意識」適応感と未来イメージの「評価」および「活動性」の間にかなりの関連(40以上)がみられた。また,適応感の上昇した者は未来イメージがポジティブに変容し,将来の自分史にもよい方向への変化がみられた。逆に適応感が下降した者は,未来イメージがネガティブに変容した。これらのことから,未来イメージや将来観が次に,高校における進路指導の実態と,進路指導に対する教師,生徒,保護者,進路先関係者の態度について調査した。この結果,高校では,進路指導の重要な領域である生き方の指導はあまり行われておらず,むしろ受験指導に力が入れられている実態が明らかになった。一方,進路指導に対する態度に関しては,大学進学や就職を目前に控えた高校生や保護者の要望と,生き方教育を重視したいとする教師の理想の間にはその態度に差があることがわかった。ただし,現実の進路指導においては,教師の意図が必ずしも反映しているとは言いがたく,このことが,高校における不適応者,ひいては中退者を発生させる原因のひとつとなっていることが示唆された。
