项目摘要

日本植民地時代の台湾の高等女学校の実態を掌握するため、まず、発行されている学校史(誌)、同窓会誌を収集し、全貌を一瞥した。その上で、台湾中央図書館分館に所蔵されている各学校の一覧を見て、当該年度の各女学校の状況を文献資料によって浮き彫りにした(『台湾総督府学事年報』・『台湾総督府統計所』・『台湾学事一覧』調査済み)。その上で各高等女学校(現在は高級中学校)の名簿をもとに無作為に調査対象者を選択し、郵送法によるアンケートを求めた。発送総数は1000通を越えたが、古い名簿もあり、受取人転居・死亡・不明等により、実質発送数738通、回答数198通で、回収率は26.8%となった。日本国内の同調査より下回る数値であるが、日本語と疎遠になってすでに半世紀近くを経過している今日、この数値は高率と判断できる。貴重な意見が綿々と綴られており、重要な証言資料である。これと並行して、8月台湾の台北・台中・台南・高雄各地で総計92名にのぼる高等女学校あるいは女学校卒業生にインタビューをした。時には個別に、時にはグループでの話し合いの中で、日本統治下に於ける台湾の女学生が教師に対し、また友人関係の中で抱いた差別感が吐露された。その一方大戦終結後の厳しい台湾の状況が招来したため、日本統治下を懐かしみ、それを是とする意見もあったのは事実である。本研究では、歴史的事実に照らしつつ、当時の教育の実態を明らかにし、21世紀における民族共存のための基本的人権の確立、アイデンテイテイの形成を促すような教育を模索したいと願っている。
