本研究の目的は、ロドリゲス著「日本小文典」(原文ポルトガル語)注釈の基礎を築こうとすることにあった。「日本小文典」(1620)は「日本大文典」(1604〜08)の単なる要約ではなく様々に新しい知見を含んでおり、その内容把握は日本語史研究に欠かすことができない。本研究は16,17世紀ポルトカル語正書法書を縦軸に据え当時のポルトガル語の情況をできるだけ正確に把握しながらその一方で、同時代のアフリカ、ブラジル、インドにおける(ポルトガル語で書かれた)現地語文法書を横軸に据え、それらの構成とも比較対照しつつ、「日本小文典」を解釈する基礎を築こうとするものである。まず「日本小文典」を「大航海時代の語学書」(16,17世紀にポルトガル語で書かれたアフリカ・ブラジル・インド・日本における現地語語学書)の一つとして据えなおし、当時の世界の時代背景、日本を含む各地域における語学書の性格について、次のような諸点に考察を加えた。(1)ルネサンスからバロックへの移り行き(2)ルネサンスと日本(3)ヨーロッパ特にポルトガルにおける古典語研究(4)当時のヨーロッパの「俗語」、ポルトガル語研究(5)アフリカ、ブラジル、インドの語学研究(6)日本の語学研究(7)世界各地の言語の「ローマ字化」「文法化」(8)日本語文法研究の特質そして、以上の結果を英文で簡潔にまとめた上、以下のような項目に分類した基礎資料、参考文献リストを作成した。(1)16,17世紀ポルトガル、アフリカ、ブラジル、インド、日本語学書(2)大航海時代関係図書(3)各現地語関係図書-アフリカ(コンゴ語、ンドンゴ語)ブラジル(トゥピ語、キリリ語)インド(タミル語、コンカニ語)日本(日本語)

The purpose of this study is to establish the foundation for the annotation of "Japanese small text"(original text). "Japanese Small Text"(1620) and "Japanese Big Text"(1604 - 08) offer a new understanding of the contents of the study of Japanese language history. This study is based on the 16th and 17th century Chinese calligraphic books, and on the comparison of the composition of the Chinese calligraphic books, and on the foundation of the interpretation of the Japanese small texts.
